Live and work in an environment that pushes you to see things differently all while allowing you to help support the next generation of  skilled, practice-and career-ready veterinary leader.   POSITION OVERVIEW:    The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Research Program Administrator provides support to the IACUC and administration to all stages of sponsored research. As part of the research administrative team, this position will report jointly to the IACUC Chairperson and the Postgraduate and Research Lead Administrator. This position is responsible for implementation, management and reporting of RUSVM policies, guidelines and procedures in compliance with all international, US federal and local laws, regulations and policies in regards to the care and use of research and teaching animals. The Administrator must keep abreast of regulatory environment and requirements from international, federal and local agencies and analyse, develop, and recommend new or revised policies and procedures concerning animal use in research, testing and training. The IACUC and Research Program Administrator duties will maintain databases to capture the information required for returns to external agencies, e.g., the AVMA COE and AAALAC-International for the maintenance of accreditation

Responsibilities

• Provide support to IACUC:

• Manage the research application and submission process including pre-review of protocols and protocol amendments, ensuring compliance with IACUC policy and AAALAC-I standards.

• Recommend improvements or changes to committee guidelines or training programs resulting from committee discussion and/or changes in regulatory environment or institutional policy.

• Work cross-functionally with the Animal Resources Department, Attending Veterinarian, Facility Proctors, Environmental Health and Safety, Student Health Services, Campus Security, and Facilities to assure the Animal Care and Use Program remains compliant with all applicable laws, regulations and policies.

• Keep abreast of regulatory environment and requirements from federal, and local agencies and make recommendations for updates to University policies to reflect those requirements.

• Identify areas where Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are needed and assists in writing and reviewing SOPs

• Work closely with investigators, students, staff and others to educate them on policies and regulations, provide best-practices, recommend improvements to conditions or processes and improve general compliance on an on-going basis.

• Lead, coordinate and improve IACUC Post-Approval Monitoring and Semi-Annual Review programs and conduct facility and laboratory inspections.

• Manage and improve electronic laboratory animal management system in accordance with regulatory standards for all animal protocol records and post-approval monitoring

• Distribute materials for, coordinate and attend IACUC meetings.

• Perform administrative duties, such as scheduling IACUC meetings, coordinating agenda and materials with committee members, and ensuring the IACUC website and portal page is up to date.

• Coordinate efforts for AAALAC-I program accreditation and site visit.

• Prepare annual and semi-annual reports to OLAW, IO and AAALAC-I.

• Support Research Administration:

• Compilation of research metrics from faculty surveys.

• Review proposals for style and adherence to agency and RUSVM standards.

• Review proposal budgets for adherence to agency and RUSVM standards.

• Provide post-award project management, including assistance with progress reports and close-outs.

• Monitor and advise on issues relating to regulatory compliance.

• Perform administrative duties such as scheduling meetings and functioning as scribe for IACUC Chair and AV.

• Performs other duties as assigned

• Complies with all policies and standards

• Bachelor's Degree in a related research/science field, or equivalent specialized experience. Required
• Master's Degree in a related research/science field. Preferred
• 3+ years of IACUC-related experience as an administrator Required or
• 3+ years of experience in planning, developing, or implementing animal care and use programs/projects or research grants. Required
• Experience working with research animals either as an administrator, researcher, investigator, laboratory manager or animal care/veterinary technician.
• Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures and IACUC Policies.
• Experience working with and maintaining electronic laboratory animal management systems, e.g. Cayuse.
• Experience in Regulatory Compliance as it pertains to animal care and use.
• Demonstrated knowledge of governmental regulations and policies pertaining to animal care and use in research and teaching.
• Ability to exercise judgment in applying federal, AAALAC-I, and University regulations and standards to specific cases.
