Job Description

Faculty Talent Pipeline – Academy for Teaching & Learning (ATL)

Empowering future physicians through innovative teaching, coaching, and student development

We are building a pipeline of future faculty to join our Academy for Teaching & Learning (ATL) team—educators who are passionate about supporting medical students throughout their MD journey. ATL strengthens academic skills, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and USMLE readiness while fostering a culture of curiosity, growth, and excellence.

Pipeline Role Snapshot

Student Coaching & Learning Support

  • Provide one‑on‑one academic coaching to help students identify challenges, build effective strategies, and develop personalized learning plans.
  • Deliver small‑group and individual sessions to enhance academic literacy, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning.

Instruction & Academic Skill Development

  • Facilitate inquiry‑based learning and questioning strategies to build strong reasoning skills.
  • Teach study skills, test‑taking techniques, and cognitive skill‑building tailored to medical education.
  • Design formative assessments and collaborate on teaching and learning resources.

Collaboration & Scholarship

  • Partner with Student Affairs and Counseling to support student well‑being and holistic development.
  • Support students in developing research proposals and projects that may lead to publication.
  • Participate in medical education research to evaluate interventions and improve outcomes.

Professional Expectations

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all institutional policies and standards.

Qualifications

Education

  • Terminal degree in Medicine or Education (MD preferred), or EdD/PhD/PsyD/Master’s in Education with experience supporting medical students.
  • Prior teaching experience at a North American or Caribbean medical school preferred.

Teaching & Student Support

  • 3+ years of effective teaching in large and small group settings.
  • Proven success in mentoring or academic coaching.
  • Experience working with adult learners in STEM (required); medical education experience (preferred).
  • Experience supporting ESL learners and developing academic interventions across the student lifecycle.
  • Experience with USMLE Step 1 preparation preferred.

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Strong grounding in educational theory, adult learning, and psychology of learning.
  • Ability to apply emotional intelligence, cognitive science, and brain‑based learning to student development.
  • Understanding of student disability support needs and postsecondary/medical education teaching methods.

Professional Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, customer service orientation, and ability to build rapport across diverse groups.
  • Commitment to ongoing growth and faculty development in medical education.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with LMS platforms, online exams, videoconferencing, and audience‑response systems.
  • Experience developing online learning materials is a plus.
  • Knowledge of counseling principles and learner support strategies.
