Opportunity at a Glance
Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Certified Veterinary Technician to support operations within the Ross University Veterinary Clinic (RUVC), part of the Clinical Sciences Department. In this leadership role, you will play a vital part in advancing patient care, supporting clinical excellence, and enhancing the educational experience of veterinary students. Responsibilities are assigned by the RUVC Clinic Director in consultation with the Head of Department.
Responsibilities
As the Lead Certified Veterinary Technician, you will join a collaborative team of Certified/Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technicians and Nurses, Veterinary Assistants, and Faculty dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and clinical training.
In this role, you will help drive the day-to-day success of the clinic by ensuring the highest standards of patient care, client service, and student engagement across treatment areas, laboratories, and clinical spaces. You will provide hands-on clinical support while serving as a leader and mentor to the technician team, overseeing workflow, supporting professional development, and supervising veterinary assistants in training.
Beyond clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to the educational mission of the university through teaching and instruction, helping students build confidence and clinical competency in a supportive learning environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine leadership, patient care, and education while making a meaningful impact on the next generation of veterinary professionals. Participation in an on-call rotation is also required.
Management responsibilities are shared with the Clinic Director and may be discussed based on the applicant.
Input into the operational management of the clinic.
Management of the team will include:
- Maintaining AVMA and AAHA accreditation standards.
- Addressing training requirements of the team.
- Identifying career development opportunities.
- Managing annual performance reviews.
- Scheduling and management of timecards.
There will be an expectation to ensure the general maintenance and repair of the work area of responsibility. Another important responsibility will be working closely with the Health and Safety team to ensure compliance with all regulations.
It is expected that managerial duties will be undertaken alongside any clinical, teaching, animal care, and on-call duties.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
85% - RUVC Clinical CVT position duties.
15% - Team management and development alongside the Clinic Director. Provide input for budget management, as well as facilities, IT, and equipment oversight.
Education
- Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field required.
Licensure and Certification
- Current Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician/Nurse credential required.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician/Nurse, or equivalent, required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory, team lead, or leadership experience required.
- Experience with supervision, technician training, and/or student support is beneficial.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using learning management and assessment platforms, such as Canvas and ExamSoft.
- Experience with veterinary practice management software, preferably ProVet Cloud.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
