Essential Duties and Responsibilities of position
The School seeks to attract a first-class candidate with a background in epidemiology and veterinary preventive medicine related to One Health for:
Teaching:
• Teach veterinary public health and epidemiology to veterinary students and graduate students on such topics as quantitative epidemiology, disease surveillance and control, outbreak investigation, zoonotic and foodborne diseases
• Participate in other team-taught didactic courses as needed
• Participate in Graduate Teaching (online Master’s in One Health)
Research and Scholarly Activity:
• Lead an independent research program, and/or collaborative research program, and for promoting research to professional veterinary students. Research should result in publications in peer-reviewed journals. Intramural funding is available (upon application) but submission of grants for extramural funding is expected.
• Provide support to research-active faculty in study design and data analysis
• Add to the research expansion of the University
• Forge collaborations with relevant strategic partners to provide maximum impact for our research and programs
Administrative/Service:
• Engagement in service activities, including faculty meetings, assigned committees, and designated office hours is expected.
• Serve on postgraduate committees for Master’s and PhD students
• Completes other duties as determined and assigned by the Department and/or Division Head
Qualifications
• A DVM or comparable degree is essential
• A PhD is highly desirable, as is graduate training in epidemiology and/or veterinary preventive medicine
• Demonstrated competency in teaching DVM students, including teaching to large class sizes
• Experience in various areas of veterinary epidemiology such as design and implementation of observational and experimental epidemiologic studies, modeling of animal infectious diseases, disease surveillance, molecular epidemiology, diagnostic test result evaluation, and information technology
• Research publications in a relevant field of veterinary medicine, as well as potential to collaborate in research or develop an independent research program
• A strong commitment to meeting the needs of students and an understanding of student-centered learning, in collaboration with the existing veterinary public health/epidemiology teaching team
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere and to enthuse and positively influence students
