Opportunity at a Glance
Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) provides didactic and experiential learning in clinical medicine and surgery for veterinary students. In addition, the School operates a primary care small-animal veterinary clinic (Ross University Veterinary Clinic - RUVC) serving the needs of the community and providing an additional experiential learning environment for veterinary students. The Veterinary Technician Manager will be based in the Clinical Sciences Department at RUSVM and will have responsibility for overseeing all veterinary technicians based in the clinical sciences department and will thus have overall responsibility for supervising four certified lead veterinary technicians, an additional six certified veterinary technicians and twenty veterinary assistants based in large animal teaching, small animal teaching, clinical skills teaching and the Ross University Veterinary Clinical.
Responsibilities
- The candidate will work closely with the Head of Department of Clinical Sciences and the four academic division heads in Large animal, Small Animal, Clinical Skills and the RUVC and the four lead technicians in Anesthesia, Large animal, Clinical skills and the RUVC to ensure the smooth running of large animal medicine and skills laboratories, large and small animal surgery laboratories, the RUVC and the clinical care of RUSVM-owned animals.
- Additional responsibilities include:
- Overall responsibility with support of the lead technicians for managing the technical team which includes training, ensuring appropriate continuing education opportunities, identifying career development opportunities, and overall management of annual performance reviews.
- Overall responsibility with support of the four lead technicians for organizing work and vacation scheduling, managing time clocks, and keeping track of compensatory time for veterinary technicians.
- Responsible with the Head of Clinical Sciences Department, four academic division heads and four lead technicians to ensure efficient administration of the annual budget setting process.
- Responsible with the Head of the Clinical Sciences Department, four academic division heads and four lead technicians to ensure efficient administration of the purchasing processes.
- Responsible for recruitment of veterinary technicians if vacancies occur
- Responsible for ensuring there is adequate technician support present to provide, high quality support of teaching and clinical care of animals, at all times
- Manage the appropriate allocation of veterinary technicians across areas as needed and facilitate cross training as appropriate
- Completes other duties as assigned.

- Complies with all policies and standards
- 7 years’ experience working in small or large animal clinical practice as a Certified Vet Technician/Nurse or equivalent international qualification. Required and
- Experience with Microsoft Office. Required
- Mastery of veterinary technical skills and theoretical knowledge.
- The desire to teach and interact with veterinary students, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience.
- Ability to communicate in a corporate and educational setting.
- Flexibility to work after-hours, weekends, and holidays for the purposes of emergency cover.
