Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
The Shuttle Operator Specialist is responsible for safely operating the RUSVM shuttle bus and ensuring the safe, orderly transportation of community members within the campus. The role includes maintaining the health and safety of passengers, overseeing the cleanliness and upkeep of the shuttle bus, and keeping accurate trip records and logs. The specialist must report any incidents, accidents, damage, or injuries involving the shuttle bus. Additionally, the operator is expected to maintain a professional appearance, demonstrate a cooperative attitude with colleagues and passengers, and remain flexible to work different shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the RUSVM community transportation needs as scheduled and authorized are in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Respond to emergencies and assigned transportation requests on and off campus as appropriate and authorized.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe environment on the shuttle bus for community members and other authorized persons riding the shuttle bus while en-route to their destinations.
  • Provide moral support including the taking or making a report of any incident involving any community member while he/she is a passenger on the shuttle bus.
  • Ensure that community members traveling to their residences or destination on the shuttle bus are dropped off as close as possible to his/her home or destination, wait and ensure that person gets into his/her premises safely before driving from the area.
  • Notice and address unwanted occurrences such as suspicious activities or inappropriate behavior happening while on the shuttle bus.
  • Prevent violations and infractions on the shuttle, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden goods, articles, substances, or other items.
  • Report any person engaging in suspicious or criminal act while riding the shuttle.
  • Ensuring all passengers are seated properly and strictly follow the passenger limits where applicable.
  • Must always maintain a friendly, professional, and helpful demeanor.
  • Follow all traffic regulations.
  • Maintain the Shuttle bus log.
  • Ensuring the bus is fueled, cleaned and well-maintained.
  • Report any damage reported or discovered on the shuttle vehicles.
  • To complete and submit report of incidents / accidents to Supervisor /Dispatch.
  • Wear the uniform in a neat and professional manner.
  • Enroll in various training programs and exercises as recommended by leadership
  • Assist with on-campus duties as required.
  • Ensure that all relevant health and safety protocols are observed by passengers entering and transported on the shuttle vehicles.
  • The Shuttle operator specialist should engage in periodic welfare check-ins to the SOC to ensure his/her whereabouts are documented and his communication equipment is functional.
  • This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • 4 CXC Subject Passes preferred (including English) Required
  • 5+ years Should have at least five (5) years driving experience. Previous coaster bus driving experience is an asset Required
  • Specialized Knowledge for Performance of Job
  • Capable of writing proper reports of incidents and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in the English language
  • A Key component of well-conducted Shuttle operator specialist is the dependable communication with the dispatcher
  • Must be the holder of the valid type required driver’s license (class A and above) to drive and operate the appropriate vehicle for the intended purpose.
