Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
RUSVM’s Department of Student Experience provides programs and support that assist veterinary students achieve their goal of completing the veterinary program and becoming practice ready graduates. As a member of the Student Experience Team the Student Services Representative works as a member of the RUSVM Student Service Center (SSC) team and has the responsibility to provide excellent service to students seeking assistance in-person or via email or other communication channels. The SSC provides students assistance with questions including, but not limited to, billing, financial aid, and academic process needs. Additionally, the SSC serves as the initial point of contact for any questions, concerns, or challenges students may have. SSC staff work across the university - on-island and stateside - to assess and resolve student issues quickly and efficiently, refer students effectively, and provide an exceptional standard of student care. This position will report to the Student Service Center Manager. The Representative, Student Services, is an essential member of Student Experience Team and will work closely with colleagues across the university in the delivery of an exceptional student experience

Responsibilities

  • Continuously prioritize excellent student service as a fundamental goal and attribute of the student experience team.
  • Serve as one of the initial contacts for students who come to the SSC counter and, in partnership with the entire SSC team, assure consistent coverage of SSC service hours.
  • Continually seek to expand knowledge and understanding of student facing processes and procedures to effectively answer most first-level questions, resolve problems, and direct students to the right department or person to assist them.
  • Process student payment transactions assuring consistent alignment with university finance processes, daily reconciliation, and effective service to students and student organizations.
  • Effectively track and assure resolution of student challenges and problems.
  • Contribute to building and continually refining knowledge database of RUSVM policies and procedures to equip service center staff for effective student service.
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities to strengthen and expand effective use of SSC systems.
  • Consistently track their individual service effectiveness and student satisfaction using transactional analysis and data capture to continually improve quality of student service.
  • Participate in professional organizations as appropriate and serve on university committees as assigned and/or interested.
  • Contributes positively to the work environment of RUSVM.
  • Performs other job-related duties as mutually agreed upon or assigned.
  • In addition to the Essential Duties and Responsibilities, each SSC representative will manage some staff-specific projects based on areas of expertise, strength, and interest. Projects will be determined in in partnership with the SSC Manager.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Customer Service, Education, Communications, or a related field required.
  • 1+ years experience related to essential job functions including, but not limited to, higher education, business, or project management.
  • Experience with the use of computer-based systems and to learn new systems effectively. Required
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a higher education student service position.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work with a team of people.
  • Oral and written skills to communicate in a diverse environment, with tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve customer service problems effectively.
  • A demonstrated positive approach to helping students.
