Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
The Mobile Patrol Specialist of the Safety and Security Department is responsible to his/her immediate supervisor, the Watch Supervisor. The Mobile Patrol Specialist in addition to on campus duties, is responsible for patrolling areas outside campus, ensuring the safety and protection of the RUSVM community. The Mobile Patrol Specialist due to his/her position, is held to a high level of confidentiality in the workplace. The Mobile Specialist Patrol is required to adhere to and enforce all RUSVM policies, procedures, and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol on and off campus in designated areas to deter criminal intention, mitigate the risk of incident and criminal activity, and increase the safety and security of our community.
  • Respond to emergencies on and off campus and assist First responders and local authorities if needed. Emergencies may include, but is not limited to, natural disaster like a hurricane, fire, flooding, or any criminal acts.
  • Respond in a timely manner to assistance calls on and off campus from the community members, which includes roadside assistance.
  • Respond to reported incidents on and off campus.
  • Initiate investigation and submit reports.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions on campus such as loitering, smoking in non-smoking areas, or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Support the local authority in the apprehension of persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts against the RUSVM community.
  • Provide moral support, conduct interviews, in responding to reported incidents where RUSVM community members are involved.
  • Assist law enforcement in communication with affected community members.
  • May have to attend and testify in court in support of a Ross community member or as a witness.
  • Conduct courtesy visits and wellness checks to RUSVM community members.
  • To complete and submit a report to the supervisor after responding to a situation.
  • Ensure campus safety and security during lockdown or campus closure for emergencies.
  • Assist with the change of shift inspections, cleaning and handing over of the security vehicle at the end of shift, completes other projects and assist with on-campus duties as required during a shift.
  • This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • 5 CXC Subject Passes preferred (including English) Preferred and
  • Previous law enforcement or relevant security experience Required
  • Capable of writing proper detailed incident reports and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and writing in standard English.
  • Should possess sound judgement to avoid becoming involved in vehicle chases or similar levels of retaliatory action.
  • Patrolling skills to ensure effective timing of patrols that will limit the likelihood of patrols being timed or predicted by criminals. Knowledge of use of strategies such as frequently reversing course would be an asset.
  • Surveillance or observation skills to detect any irregularities and unauthorized persons around the property to prevent crime before they occur.
  • Attention to detail to identify and observe criminal activities or suspicious behaviors.
  • Must be willing to work on a rotating shift basis including, day, evening, night, weekends, and public holidays. May have to work extra hours during emergencies.
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid in St. Kitts / CARICOM Upon Hire Required
