Opportunity at a Glance:
This position is a non-faculty role within the Student Experience Team, housed in an International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS)-accredited Counseling Center located on the RUSVM campus. Counselors provide primarily in-person individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation services to veterinary medical students. Counselors additionally facilitate outreach and prevention initiatives that foster a supportive campus community. Services are delivered from a trauma-informed framework and in accordance with (IACS) standards for college and university counseling centers.
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver direct clinical services to veterinary medical students, (approximately 65% of total work hours), including in-person individual and group counseling, consultation, and crisis assessment and intervention
· Conduct case management and coordination of care for students
· Develop trauma-informed psychoeducational materials tailored to the needs of veterinary medical students
· Develop and facilitate mental health outreach, prevention and special-topics workshops and presentations for students and the campus community
· Provide clinical consultation within the team as well as for other campus departments, programs and professionals regarding student mental health
· Maintain timely clinical documentation and case management records
· Participate in case conference, departmental and institution-wide meetings
· Provide clinical oversight of the Counseling Center in the absence of the Director
· Adhere to Counseling Center policies and procedures, as well as legal, ethical and professional standards of care
· Deliver high-quality client care while effectively balancing multiple priorities
· Collaborate within the Counseling Center team to support and improve daily operations
· Engage in professional associations and ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices and culturally responsive care
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling or Department Head
Additional Responsibilities:
· May require occasional evening, weekend, or early morning hours.
· Experience with Titanium Software preferred
· Other duties as assigned
Education:
· Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or a closely related field.
Licenses/Certifications:
· Must hold independent licensure in counseling (or its equivalent), valid in any US state, Canadian province, or regulated country.
Experience:
· Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a college or university counseling center
· Demonstrated clinical practice grounded in social justice, trauma-informed, decolonial or liberation-focused approaches
· Ability to triage, providing short-term, long-term, crisis and problem-solving counseling services as clinically appropriate
· Experience developing and delivering outreach and prevention programming
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Strong clinical skills in psychotherapy, assessment and crisis intervention
· In-depth knowledge of counseling within a higher educational setting, and the clinical needs of this population
· Demonstrated initiative in identifying campus needs and developing appropriate interventions
· Commitment to working with diverse student populations, through cultural humility and culturally responsive practice
· Interest in and ability to apply trauma-informed principles within client care, team dynamics, campus relationships, and the wider community
· Evidence of being self-motivated, accountable, and collaborative within a team
· Excellent written, oral, and computer communication skills
· Knowledge of legal, ethical, and professional standards in counseling practice
