Job Description

Join Our Team as a Veterinary Skills Lab Technician!

Hands-On Lab Work: Be at the forefront of student learning by assisting with large animal procedures such as model-based transtracheal washes, abdominocentesis, equine bandaging, and live animal labs. Help train students, support model-based skills labs, and assess student performance, while contributing directly to animal care when needed.

Behind-the-Scenes Support: Keep our labs running smoothly by organizing materials, restocking supplies, assisting with course budgets, and using exam software and Microsoft tools for scheduling and tracking student attendance.

Team Collaboration: Participate in the campus on-call rota, shared equally among veterinary nurses, to ensure top-quality patient care across our facilities.

You’ll report directly to our Lead Large Animal Technician and have the chance to take on additional exciting projects as they arise.


Qualifications

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic individual with a passion for teaching to join our Large Animal Department as a Veterinary Skills Lab Technician. This role involves assisting with veterinary student training and supporting the care of large animals. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will relay information daily to colleagues, students, and on-call clinicians.

Preferred Experience:

  • Large animal or equine clinical experience, including assisting with medical procedures.

  • Performing technical medical tests such as transtracheal washes, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, and abdominocentesis.

  • Supervising and training students, veterinary technicians, and animal care personnel.

  • Stocking and maintaining medicines, supplies, and equipment.

  • Administering treatments and medications, including calculating dosages.

  • Observing and recording animal behavior.

  • Directing humane care, feeding, and handling of large animals.

  • Providing hands-on support in live animal labs as needed.

Education & Credentials:

  • Veterinary Technician Nurse registration or certification preferred.

  • Either:

    • Completion of a 2- or 4-year veterinary technology degree OR

    • Post-graduate degree from an accredited veterinary or animal sciences program.
