Job Description

Help shape the next generation of healthcare providers through high-quality, student-centered nursing education. In this role, you will deliver instruction across classroom, online, clinical, lab, and simulation settings—including flexible evening and weekend offerings—while contributing to student success, faculty mentorship, and academic excellence.

What You’ll Do

Teaching & Student Success

  • Teach assigned nursing courses across classroom, online, clinical, lab, and simulation environments using evidence-based and technology-enhanced methods
  • Create engaging, inclusive learning experiences that connect theory to practice
  • Prioritize student success by understanding individual needs and fostering supportive relationships
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback, including remediation as needed
  • Lead or support clinical, lab, and simulation experiences to ensure students are practice-ready and demonstrate safe, ethical, and professional care

Curriculum & Academic Excellence

  • Provide input into course curriculum and implement instructional materials
  • Maintain current course content using evidence-based teaching practices
  • Leverage data, technology, and AI tools to continuously improve outcomes

Student & Faculty Support

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to students and new faculty
  • Enforce and stay current with academic policies (exams, attendance, grading, etc.)

Service, Scholarship & Engagement

  • Participate in committees, graduation, and program evaluation activities
  • Engage in scholarship aligned with teaching and nursing practice (research, application, dissemination)
  • Maintain subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development

Leadership & Faculty Contribution (Assistant Professor Rank)

  • Chair or serve on university committees and accreditation workgroups
  • Support accreditation preparation and continuous quality improvement efforts
  • Gather and analyze course, curriculum, and program data
  • Serve as course coordinator, course lead, or Subject Matter Expert (SME)
  • Document actions and outcomes from faculty and committee work

Faculty are also expected to:

  • Demonstrate scholarship in teaching, discovery, application, or integration
  • Engage in scholarly teaching, including peer review, reflection, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • PhD or equivalent degree appropriate to the discipline
  • 2+ years full-time teaching experience at the instructor level or higher
  • 2+ years direct patient care experience in the relevant clinical specialty or content area
  • Education and experience must align with state regulatory requirements
  • Experientially prepared to teach assigned courses

Licensure & Compliance

  • Must hold a current, active, and unencumbered Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license and Nurse Licensure in a Compact state
  • National certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)
  • Meet all clinical compliance requirements, where applicable
  • Adhere to state-specific teaching requirements 

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills with strong initiative and sound judgment
  • Technological proficiency with learning management systems, simulation tools, and online platforms; ability to leverage AI
  • Ability to create engaging learning environments and effectively manage conflict
  • Strong collaboration skills across faculty, Extended Service Team, and clinical partners
  • High emotional and social intelligence with the ability to support diverse student needs and foster an inclusive environment

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $70,696.34 and $127,957.05. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
